Productivity | Free 'Language Reactor' (not sponsored) - Now You Can Watch Non-English YouTube and Netflix Shows and Beyond
My favorite language tool - Discover 'Language Reactor', a powerful Chrome extension for YouTube and Netflix that translates the content to your preferred language.
Hi All,
Today, I wanted to introduce another my favorite tool 'Language Reactor'. I am not paid to introduce the tool here. A couple of years ago, my German course teacher introduced me to the tool and ever since, it seems to have made some impressive progress and I wanted to share the tool with you in case you are trying to learn new language or if you want to watch contents that are not available in the language you understand.
The other day - a thought occurred to me. How crazy it is that there are 8 billion people on planet Earth and we don't understand each other, because we don't speak the same language. That means the flow of information is not seamless among the same species! and people are living in constant fear of one another because there are 'unknowns.' (no wonder so many countries resort to 'pre-emptive' military measures for national security and defense strategy). This problem wouldn't exist in other animals I presume, for instance, an elephant from Africa would be able to communicate with an elephant from Thailand if they are to put together side by side. I would never know the truth, because I don't speak 'elephant,' but that would be my guess.
I also have to confess that I have a constant paranoia about 'information bias' and 'not knowing the truth' - I have a massive FOMO with the 'knowledge.' 60% of the internet information is written in English these days. Below infographic provides a great visualization of stats, but they are from 2021. Still, the current stats as of Jan 2023 are more or less aligned. I always wondered how I can ensure that my way of thinking is not biased (virtually impossible) and to prevent this, how I can tap into various cultures and countries' ways of life so that I can diversify the source of inputs to my brain. For instance, the information I get from English-based media outlets and social media platforms would be completely different from the ones operated by Arabic, Korean, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, etc.
However, if I don't speak these languages, the chances of me being able to discover certain websites or media news outlets by accident are very slim (without active translation). However, thanks to the power of the YouTube algorithm, from time to time, I can see that sometimes non-English speaking channels are suggested to me and that's when my mind gets blown away (it's like discovering a whole new world that you didn't know exist! even a travel guide is different - places people visit, focus themes, etc.).
So, that's why I got so excited when I came across this tool (again, I am not sponsored) - that not only provides subtitles in the local language but also in English so that I can access the information!
